Barry Taylor - Celebrant of life events
Marriage and Civil Union Celebrant
Let me help you create the marriage or civil union ceremony that is truly reflective of your shared values and beliefs, and signifies the depth and commitment of your love towards each other.
With a belief that one size doesn‘t fit all, my commitment is to work with you to tailor-make a ceremony that you and all who attend will remember and cherish. I am an experienced and confident public speaker who is able to mark this special event with the degree of celebration and solemnity that you are most comfortable with as well as ensuring the legal requirements are met.
I am known for creating rituals that both celebrate and are respectful of diversity in sexuality and gender.
I have been a funeral celebrant for nearly 25 years and have had the honour of assisting many individuals, families or groups of friends to create a funeral or memorial service that appropriately pays tribute to the life of the person they mourn and to farewell the body in a befitting and meaningful way.
You can be assured of caring, warm, professional service, and I will do my very best to ensure the path through this difficult time is made as smooth as possible.
Backed by 30 years of supporting those bereaved by suicide I am known for sensitively leading funerals of those that have died by suicide that honour the person but does not glorify suicide.
Being LGBTTIQA+ friendly, I am acutely aware of the importance in appropriately acknowledging the dead person's sexual or gender identify, their friendships and relationships and the significance of certain life milestones related to their sexuality and/or gender.
We live in an increasingly secular society, the giving of their name in a formal ceremony is becoming more popular and can take the place of a religious ceremony.
The giving of the child's first names is a special moment as it marks the uniqueness of the person and the specialness of their life to come. It is the gift of the name by which the person will be known. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the whakaapa (ancestry line) of the family name(s) and to welcome the child into the family line. and for the family to publicly state their commitment to the care and wellbeing of the child and to share their dreams and aspiration
This event is a joyous gathering of family and friends to celebrate either the arrival of a new life or to mark the formal inclusion of child into a family through adoption. It can take place close to the birth date or much later. An adaption of a naming ceremony can be held to mark the blending of families.
